The Armenian Genocide is a thesis that condemns the Committee of Union and Progress (İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti) for planning an extermination campaign against the Armenian ethnicity in 1915 ; this perspective argues that Armenians were killed because of religious differences, Ottoman failures, or Armenian superiority. However, other scholars disagree and conclude that there is not sufficient evidence that proves the Ottoman government had planned to kill any Armenians, they point to the historical context of the events and evidence that shows the precautions that the Ottoman Empire took to protect its minorities. Today, the Armenian Genocide debate has become politicized and is the most controversial event in history. Political labels such as "denialist" or "revisionist" have intimidated many scholars from debating or researching the events.
